Destroyer – Ken

Destroyer is a Canadian rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia fronted by singer-songwriter Dan Bejar and formed in 1995. The band’s discography draws on a variety of musical influences, resulting in albums that can sound markedly distinct from one another; in Bejar’s words, “That’s kind of my goal: to start from scratch every time”. Ken is their eleventh studio album, released on October 2017. Many of the songs and sounds of the album were aesthetic callbacks to Bejar’s teenage years in the mid 1980’s, with loose ties to Thatcher era politics. The album received very positive reviews, with Pitchfork calling the album “Lynchian” (from David Lynch) and compared Bejar’s lyrics to Leonard Cohen on the track “Sky’s Grey.” Consequence of Sound characterized ken as Destroyers most accessible album.
