Phil Woods / Tom Harrell – The Jazz Masters

Philip Woods was an American jazz alto saxophonist, clarinetist, bandleader, and composer. He has worked with Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, and won four Grammy awards in his career. Tom Harrell is an American jazz trumpeter, flugelhornist, composer, and arranger. Voted Trumpeter of the Year of 2018 by Jazz Journalists Association, Harrell has won awards and grants throughout his career. The Jazz Masters is a recording from October 2006 wit hPhil Woods on alto and Tom Harrell on trumpet. The full group’s a quintet – with Hal Galper on piano, Steve Gilmore on bass, and Bill Goodwin on drums – and the tunes are a wonderful mix of bold colors and sharper solo lines.
