The Band was a Canadian-American rock group formed in Toronto, Ontario, in 1967. Originally the backing band for Ronnie Hawkins and later Bob Dylan, the group was one of the most popular and influential rock groups in the world. The Band combined elements of Americana, folk, rock, jazz, country, and R&B, influencing subsequent musicians including the Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Led Zeppelin, Elvis Costello, Elton John, and Pink Floyd. The Band is the title of their second studio album, released on September 22, 1969. It is also known as The Brown Album, and includes many of the Band’s best-known and critically acclaimed songs.
