Queens of the Stone Age (commonly abbreviated QOTSA) is an American rock band formed in 1996 in Palm Desert, California. The band was founded by vocalist and guitarist Josh Homme, who has been the only constant member throughout multiple line-up changes. Formed after the dissolution of Homme’s previous band Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age developed a style of riff-oriented, heavy rock music. Their sound has since evolved to incorporate a variety of different styles and influences, most notably including collaborations with Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan. Lullabies to Paralyze is their fourth studio album, released on March 21, 2005. It is the band’s first album to be released after Nick Oliveri was fired from the band. Josh Homme and Mark Lanegan are the only members from the previous album, Songs for the Deaf, to play on this album and it is the first album to feature drummer Joey Castillo and guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen. A number of guests appear on Lullabies, including Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Jack Black (Tenacious D and actor), Jesse Hughes (Eagles Of Death Metal), Shirley Manson (Garbage).
