Primus – AntiPop


Primus is an American funk metal band formed in El Sobrante, California in 1984. Unlike other bands associated with the 1990s alternative music movement, Primus emerged from a mostly heavy metal background, with their members being previously a part of the 1980s Californian thrash metal underground. Kirk Hammett of Metallica, remarked in a 1991 interview that Primus are “unique, they’re a square peg in a round hole”. Their music has been described as alternative rock, alternative metal, experimental rock, funk rock, funk metal, progressive rock, and “thrash-funk”. The band have been credited as an influence to the nu metal genre, with bands such as Deftones, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Incubus and more. Antipop is the sixth studio album by the American rock band Primus, released on October 19, 1999. The album features several well-known guest musicians and producers, including Tom Waits, James Hetfield (of Metallica), Jim Martin (former member of Faith No More), Fred Durst (of Limp Bizkit), Martina Topley-Bird (known from her work with Tricky), and Tom Morello (of Rage Against the Machine).
