Ornette Coleman – At The Town Hall

12,00

Ornette Coleman was an American jazz saxophonist, violinist, trumpeter, and composer. He is considered the founder of free jazz,  a term he invented for one of his albums but later disapproved. His works have become standards and are cited as important early works in free jazz, and he has received many awards including a Grammy for lifetime achievement and a Pulitzer Prize For Music. At The Town Hall, December 1962 is the first recording featuring his new trio after the ensemble of his Atlantic years. The album provides partial documentation of a concert featuring several ensembles which had been organised and promoted by Coleman himself, in his search for artistic and financial independence. Even though the concert would be followed by two years of absence from public performance and recording, it is indicative of the direction which Coleman’s music would take on his return in 1965, with the core trio and the introduction of string instrument textures. This LP is limited to 500 copies.
