Huntsville – Past Increasing, Future Receding
Huntsville (established 2006 in Oslo, Norway) is an experimental jazz trio from Oslo, Norway. Formed by three Norwegian veterans of creative jazz music, the guitarist Ivar Grydeland, bassist Tonny Klutten and percussionist Ingar Zach, they are known for performing their instruments in unorthodox manners and then manipulate their sounds to obtain the post-modern reinvention of folk, jazz, raga and drone music. Their music is described as energetic and intense, and they have played a variety of concerts internationally and in Norway. Past Increasing, Future Receding is their fifth album, released in September 2013. Clearly the group’s most atmospheric and monumental release so far, the album was recorded in Emanuel Vigeland’s Mausoleum at Slemdal in Oslo: a dimly lit – almost entirely dark – barrel-vaulted room completely covered with frescos painted by the famous Norwegian artist.
