Cranes are a British music group formed in 1985. The band’s music has been described as “gothic minimalism”, dream pop and briefly they were part of the shoegazing movement of the era. Population Four is their fifth album released in 1997. It signaled the first major change in the lineup of Cranes with the departure of bassist Cope. Jim Shaw stepped from behind the drums to take over lead guitar duties in full, Francombe switched to bass, while new member Manu Ros settled behind the drum kit.
