Captain Beefheart And The Magic Band – Clear Spot

30,00

Captain Beefheart (real name Don Van Vliet) was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist. He conducted a rotating ensemble called the Magic Band, with whom he recorded 13 studio albums between 1964 and 1982. His music blended elements of blues, free jazz, rock, and avant-garde composition with idiosyncratic rhythms, absurdist wordplay, and his wide vocal range. Although he achieved little commercial success, he sustained a cult following as a “highly significant” and “incalculable” influence on an array of new wave, punk, and experimental rock artists. Clear Spot is his seventh studio album, released on LP in 1972 in a clear plastic sleeve. For this album Beefheart wanted more commercial success – hence his decision to work with the widely respected team of producer Ted Templeman and engineer Donn Landee, who previously created hits for artists such as the Doobie Brothers, Carly Simon and Van Morrison. Clear Spot gathers together much of the lyrical material that Beefheart had created or formulated at the beginning of The Spotlight Kid recordings. Former Mothers of Invention and Little Feat bassist Roy Estrada joined the band on this album and is credited as “Oréjon” (big ears) on the album’s sleeve while noted session percussionist Milt Holland also contributed percussion. The album includes the hit “Her Eyes Are A Blue Million Miles” that was featured on the soundtrack of the 1998 film The Big Lebowski.
